Report summary

Christmas Creek is a large capacity surface mine in Western Australia's Pilbara iron ore province and one of Fortescue's two operating mines that make up the Chichester Hub - the other mine is Cloudbreak. Christmas Creek produces 55 Mtpa of beneficiated iron ore fines. Cash costs have fallen substantially over the past five years and are expected to remain low going forward. However, we expect some upward pressure on costs due to a combination of uncontrollable factors such as higher fuel prices as well as a gradually rising strip ratio. These will be partially offset by productivity and efficiency improvements through a greater use of automation in all parts of the business.
