Report summary

El Algarrobo is a small surface mine located in the Atacama region of Chile. It is majority owned by the vertically integrated Chilean steel producer Compañía de Acero del Pacífico (CAP) and operated by an owned subsidiary Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP). The operation is CAP's oldest having being acquired from Dutch firm Mijnen N.V. in 1959.CAP closed El Algarrobo in late 2015 due to its high cost position. All the lump ore from El Algarrobo was being used domestically in Compañía Siderúrgica Huachipato's steel plant.
