Firetail iron ore mine

Report summary

Firetail is FMG's lowest operating cost mine and one of the lowest cost mines supplying the seaborne iron ore market. It forms part of FMG's Solomon Hub in Western Australia's Pilbara region. First ore was mined at Firetail in December 2012, the ore processing facility was commissioned in April 2013 and the mine officially opened in May 2013. The mine has a production capacity of 26Mtpa. Ore from Firetail is blended with ore from FMG's Chichester Hub to produce the Fortescue Blend product that is primarily sold to Chinese steel mills.
