The Joint Metallurgical Scheme (JMS) comprises two distinct operations. The first treats slimes from tailings dams in three pyrite flotation plants with a combined capacity of 18Mt/a, owned by Free State Geduld, President Steyn and President Brand. Pyrite concentrates are treated in a roaster prior to gold recovery from the calcine. Sulphuric acid and uranium oxide production in the 6.6Mt/a SxEw uranium plant provide co-product credits.
