Global copper short-term outlook February 2016

Global copper short-term outlook February 2016

Report summary

The copper metal market service short term outlook (STO) is published monthly and provides a forecast of copper supply and demand fundamentals over the next two-years. February was another volatile month for copper pricing, synonymous with trends seen elsewhere across the commodity and financial markets. After falling to around $4,400/t early on in the month, copper prices subsequently rallied sharply to a high of $4,771/t on the 26th February. Positive comments from the head of the People's Bank of China, made around the G20 summit, have helped to ease some jitters around the trajectory of the Chinese economy. Meanwhile, the release of some positive US economic data has also helped to lend support and drive a slight improvement in market sentiment.
