Global lead long-term outlook Q3 2018

Report summary

The recent fall in lead prices, together with other base metals, does not make a fundamental weakness. Tightness will remain in concentrate and refined metal supply, holding them near historical lows, until this situation is reversed by a supply surge flipping the markets into surplus around 2021, where the excess will remain for some years. Prices will lift, supported by fundamentals, in the near term until this catalyses a supply boost, pushing down on prices with excess mine production. A reduction in the rate of decline in Chinese ebike demand in the coming years has increased our forecast consumption data, offset by a marked softening of demand in North America, producing little overall change in the coming decade.
