Commodity Market Report
Global nickel short-term outlook August 2020
Report summary
Nickel prices continue to increase despite a market exhibiting substantial surplus in 2020. Prices should be falling, and yet they are still rising because of strong fundamentals in China. Clearly, the day to day impact on the global economy from the pandemic is a substantial downside risk, as is the fact that the recession is not yet over, and demand is not going to return to pre-pandemic levels anytime soon. But the market does not appear to be very concerned with those negative factors right now.
