Report summary

Nickel prices remained close to their lowest level for a year for most of June. Late month they turned upwards on unsubstantiated reports of smelter closures in Indonesia before a strengthening Chinese stainless market led to greater gains. The rally may be short lived however and our outlook for the rest of 2017 is for little improvement. We also review the state of nickel alloys demand in aerospace after attending the Paris Air Show and review some recent developments in the battery materials industry.
