Hindalco, part of the Aditya Birla Group, is a publically traded company. The company was established in 1958 and began operations in 1962 with the Renukoot facility in Uttar Pradesh. In 2000, Hindalco acquired 74.6% of Indal, in which it had increased its holding to 97% by 2005. The acquisition of Novelis in 2007 internationalised the company and gave it a major downstream presence. Hindalco has assets at each stage of the production chain from bauxite mines, alumina refineries and smelters through to downstream processing facilities.
