The Hope Bay mine location is remote and climatic conditions are harsh. Snow accumulation begins in September with ice remaining until the following June. Sea access is generally available for 1-2 months of the year. The mine is an underground operation utilising a combination of room and pillar, and longhole open stoping mining methods. A modular mill recovers free milling gold by gravity concentration and cyanide leaching. While gold associated with sulphide minerals is recovered by flotation. Life of mine (LOM) gold recovery is expected to be 92%. Commercial production commenced in May 2017 and currently, mine life is modelled at 20 years. LOM annual gold production is expected to be approximately 160koz per year.
