Report summary

Hope Downs 4 is one of the newest mines developed by Rio Tinto in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. First ore was loaded on railcars in April 2013 and we expect it to have a steady-state production of 16Mtpa. Ownership of the mine is held in a 50/50 joint venture between Rio Tinto and Hancock Prospecting. Hope Downs 4 is one of Rio Tinto's most productive operations through its use of autonomous trucks. However, its costs are slightly inflated by its significant de-watering requirement and its use of wet processing.
