Hope Downs 4 iron ore mine

Report summary

Hope Downs 4 is one of the newest mines developed by Rio Tinto in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. First ore was loaded on railcars in April 2013 and it has a production capacity of 16Mtpa.  Ownership of the mine is held in a 50/50 joint venture between Rio Tinto and Hancock Prospecting. Hope Downs 4 is one of Rio Tinto's most productive operations through its use of autonomous trucks. However, its costs are slightly inflated by its significant de-watering requirement and use of wet processing.
