Cleveland-Cliffs' Indiana Harbor East steelworks produces a mix of hot rolled coil, cold rolled coil and hot-dipped galvanised steel (HDG) products. The plant was originally owned by Inland Steel Company and ranks as one of the lowest cost integrated mills in the US. Indiana Harbor East has three blast furnaces (BFs) — #5, #6 and #7 — though just #7 is currently operational. On 28 September 2020 Cleveland-Cliffs and ArcelorMittal USA entered into a definitive agreement whereby the former acquired almost all of ArcelorMittal’s operations in the US for approximately US$1.4 billion. Indiana Harbor East was included in the transaction.
