Report summaryThe Kobe plant owned by Kobe Steel is the only 100% long product based integrated steelworks in Japan. The plant produces both wire rod and bars. It is also the smaller of the two Japanese steel plants owned by Kobe Steel. In May 2013 Kobe Steel announced plans to shut the hot end of Kobe plant and to transfer all steelmaking to their Kakogawa site by the end of Fiscal 2017. The company intends to keep the downstream wire rod and steel bar mill at Kobe open, supplying them with semi-finished products from the Kakogawa site.
