The underground Malmberget mine is one of the most geographically north iron ore mines on the planet. Located in the Swedish province of Lapland it is wholly owned by the Swedish state owned mining firm LKAB. Malmberget is an underground mine with mining taking place 1 250 metres underground. The depth of the mine and the yield loss resulting from its low grade ore makes it one of the highest cost mines in our dataset. It produces a total of 8Mtpa consisting of iron ore pellets and fines.
