Mariana - Alegria iron ore mine

Report summary

Alegria is a mid-sized surface mine and part of Vale's Mariana complex, ultimately falling under Vale's Southeastern System operations. The mine is located in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero (QF) region of the Minas Gerais state and approximately 10 kilometres north-west of the town of Mariana. Production at Alegria consists of a mix of 65% Fe fines and 67% Fe concentrate. Alegria's mining cost is the lowest one in Vale's Southeastern System due to a combination of a low-strip orebody and short haul distances.
