Mariana - Fazendao iron ore mine

Report summary

Fazendao is a mid-sized surface mine and part of Vale's Mariana complex, ultimately falling under Vale's Southeastern System operations. The mine is located in Brazil's Quadrilátero Ferrífero (QF) region and approximately 8 kilometres north of the town of Mariana. All of its output is supplied to Samarco and, with the company's stoppage following a dam failure in 2015, operations at Fazendao were also suspended. Fazendao's ore grade has been declining over the past few years as the pit advances and more of the lower-grade itabirite ore is mined.
