Asset Report
North Division iron ore mine
Report summary
North Division's Kiruna operation is the largest iron ore mine owned by Swedish state-owned mining company LKAB. It is in the process of expanding production to 18 Mtpa by 2021. Kiruna is an underground mine that is operating at a depth of more than 1 kilometre. Kiruna's production expansion is difficult as it involves shifting the town of Kiruna and increasing the mining depth to more than 1.3 kilometres. The depth of the mine makes it one of the highest cost iron ore suppliers to the seaborne market.
