Report summaryLocated in the state of Rio de Janeiro, around 2 hours from Rio, Resende is the larger of two long products EAF owned and operated by Votorantim in Brazil. Resende began production in 2009. Votorantim had been looking to expand production at Barra Mansa but the site was not big enough. Instead Votorantim invested US$550 million (BRL1 billion) in the Resende plant 40 miles from Barra Mansa an on a large plot of land that has enough space for further expansions. Resende, which produces wire rod for use in construction, currently has 1 Mtpa of crude steel capacity, but only 0.55 Mtpa of finished product capacity, with the excess billet production sold mostly into the domestic market.
