Report summary
TauTona is an underground operation using scattered-grid mining methods. Due to the extreme depths of mining, rockbursts are a problem but frequency and severity have been reduced by attention to rock mechanics and improved mining practice. The 3.6Mt/a No 2 plant formerly part of the Savuka complex is utilised. The plant comprises conventional carbon-in-pulp (CIP) processing with Merrill Crowe precipitation.
