The midstream Permania: Permian NGLs growth, risks & constraints
Report summary
The interest in developing Permian midstream infrastructure does not seem to wane. Forty-five new processing plants will have been added in the Permian between 2015 and 2018, adding 7.7 bcfd to Permian processing capacity. Permian NGL pipeline takeaway has increased by 400 kb/d over the last two years. Four proposed Permian NGL pipelines and an existing pipeline expansion could add another 1.34 million b/d to takeaway capacity, almost double current capacity. Additionally, we are witnessing some structural changes in Permian production. Pioneer Natural Resources recently reported a rise in gas-to-oil ratios (GORs) which would lead to higher associated gas production in the short term. New Permian production is also showing a higher GPM - gallons of NGLs per Mcf of gas. All these intermingling themes pose the question - What is the extent of Permian wet gas and NGLs growth & how much is the infrastructure need and when?
