Global nickel long-term outlook Q2 2014

Global nickel long-term outlook Q2 2014

Report summary

Although stainless markets are improving, except perhaps in China, the impact of the Indonesian ore export ban on NPI remains key to the mid-term nickel market. With no ore and, by 2015, no stocks, the consequent loss of NPI will leave the global market with a substantial deficit for the 2015-2017 period. Much will depend on Indonesian NPI smelter projects, which could add 100-150kt of new production by the end of 2016, but timing remains debatable.
