The European mills' recent struggles with overcapacity were recently exacerbated by imports of stainless steel from China and Taiwan. In 2014 Eurofer lobbied for anti-dumping duties against the injurious imports and these were provisionally confirmed in March 2015. Although the European mills can now raise base prices and boost output (and nickel consumption) to regain market share, the duties add to the growing constraints on China's expanding stainless steel industry.
