Crude by rail – potential policy impacts of derailments

Report summary

North America rail regulations appear to be heading towards tighter rail operation standards  and more detailed coding tank car contents.  These regulations would increase the cost of crude-by-rail movements, but the increase does not appear to materially impact our view of future crude-by-rail rail flows.
