The Morning Glory affair – Libyan militias thwarted in oil export bid

The Morning Glory affair – Libyan militias thwarted in oil export bid

Report summary

The failure of the Ibrahim Jathran-led militia to independently export crude oil is a relief for the Libyan government. The Morning Glory tanker, carrying 234,000 barrels of Libyan crude oil, was captured by US special forces in international waters, and returned to the Libyan Government.

The rebels lack international recognition and are unable to export crude oil to support their cause.

Meanwhile, oil and gas production have fallen to 300,000 b/d and 1 bcfd respectively.
