On Friday 30 March, the Belgian government announced it had signed the new "Pacte Energetique" (energy framework agreement). A key outcome is that a consensus has been reached on the phasing out of nuclear generation from the country's electricity mix. Licenses for seven reactors at the Doel and Tihange plants will not be extended beyond 40 or 50 years, leading to their shutdown between 2022 and 2025.
