Mexico’s power interconnection queue: Signs of regional diversification
Report summary
As a barometer of power asset investment activity we can examine the interconnection queue. While the vast majority of these projects will never come to fruition, they provide insight into where, when, and what technologies are currently being pursued. In total 237 GW of projects have been submitted with 60 GW being subsequently canceled, leaving 177 GW of ‘active’ projects. To no one’s surprise, solar (47%), wind (18%), and gas (30%) comprise 95% of the entire queue. Despite today’s political rhetoric and doubts about the course of future generation needs, it is difficult to isolate any specific ‘AMLO effect’ in redirecting market interest.
