Report summary

The contribution of coal in the overall demand mix will cross 50% by 2019 once all current coal projects under construction come on line. However, the outlook for coal now looks less certain with the appointment of the new secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Gina Lopez. She has promised not to grant new mining permits or renew existing ones. At the same time, the Department of Energy (DOE) is pushing for a fuel mix policy with 30% renewable energy, 30% coal, 30% gas and 10% oil products.
