Con Edison New York and Orange and Rockland plan to recruit residential customers to participate in a smart home rate demonstration project (SHR demo) to better understand the impact of rate design, technology, and customers’ reactions to residential demand charges and technology adoption. The SHR demo brings together data enabled by smart meter installations, event-based and continuous demand management, and residential demand charges. Findings of this demonstration project should be meaningful for stakeholders interested in holistic residential energy management deployments. This case study examines the utilities' plans and provides research data on relevant grid edge investment and deployments. Our Power & Renewables reports and data provide deep insight into the current and future state of electricity generation.
