Power generation from coal in South East Asia will top generation from gas in 2016, the first time this has occurred. Wood Mackenzie expects that coal will play the key role in meeting expected power growth. Coal's share in the generation mix will increase from 38% currently to over 50% by 2027. South East Asian COP21 commitments are based on voluntary national contributions that are not legally binding. As such we expect them to have a minimal impact on the forecast fuel mix.
