Spain power markets long-term outlook H1 2014

Spain power markets long-term outlook H1 2014

Report summary

Up until the beginning of the recession in 2008, the Spanish power market had experienced a period of significant expansion, with rates of growth far in excess of those recorded in any of Europe’s other well-established energy markets.  New gas-fired generation was employed as a key building block of this expansion, with significant growth in CCGT capacity and output.  Spain has also attracted considerable investment in renewable capacity, predominantly onshore wind and, more recently, solar PV.
