Report summary

EVN has fast-tracked some coal projects to alleviate supply deficit in South Vietnam. The first coal plant has been connected to the grid with domestic coal sourced from the North. With strong power demand growth projected at 9% per year until 2020, more needs to be done to ease power shortages. So far, IPP's interest in coal projects in the South has been high but the progress has been very slow.
