WECC power markets long-term outlook H2 2013

WECC power markets long-term outlook H2 2013

Report summary

Five years since the Great Recession the ripple effects continue to be felt throughout the global economy. Going into 2014, an upward momentum is expected to be driven by the developed world, in particular the US, as business investment and employment gains materialize.  While we expect a relatively robust 2.8 percent GDP growth in 2014, a long-term growth of 2.5 percent per annum (p.a.) is expected over the longer term, supported in part by oil and gas activity.  The improving global outlook is not without risks as the US Federal Reserve is expected to begin tapering its enormous quantitative easing (QE) program within the next few months.  While Wood Mackenzie's outlook accounts for such an unwind, risks stem from potential deleterious impacts, if such an unwind proves to be a messier affair.
