The Czech Republic oil products market is dominated by sole domestic refiner, Unipetrol, owned by PKN ORLEN. Its influence on the internal market is further underpinned by supply into the CEPRO pipeline. CEPRO plays a pivotal role in the impartial control of transport and wholesale prices. Benzina (PKN ORLEN), Shell, OMV and MOL are leading the way by investing in forecourt diversification. Despite the dominance of Unipetrol, the overall structure of the retail market remains fragmented and characterised by a large number of small, independent players. As such, there is scope for further network consolidation.
