Macedonia downstream oil long-term outlook 2016

Macedonia downstream oil long-term outlook 2016

Report summary

Hellenic Petroleum, via OKTA, owns Macedonia's only refinery which is located near the capital Skopje. Operating in a simple hydroskimming configuration, the refinery was uncompetitive in relation to the cost of importing ol products from more complex refineries in the region. Since the refinery stopped processing crude in January 2013 - following years of low utilisation - Macedonia's oil product demand is entirely imported from neighbouring countries. OKTA imports around two thirds of the country's oil products requirements but Makpetrol is the main fuels marketer with a 35% market share.
