Slovakia downstream oil long-term outlook 2015

Slovakia downstream oil long-term outlook 2015

Report summary

Although the Slovakian oil products market is fully liberalised, it remains dominated by Slovnaft, which has been a wholly-owned affiliate of MOL since 2000. Slovnaft is the country’s sole refiner and effectively controls the internal wholesale market for petroleum products. In 2014, OMV, Eni, Shell and Unipetrol were competing with a marketing presence in Slovakia and manufacturing support from neighbouring countries. In Aug 2014, Norm Benzinkut Kft acquired Lukoil's service stations across the country. In July 2015 MOL's acquisition of Eni's fuels marketing business was finalised. Slovakia is a surplus market, exporting 70% of domestically refined products.
