Early studies suggested that the Alum shales in southern Sweden were thick had a high organic content and were thermally mature. In 2010 Shell drilled three wells (Oderup C4 1 Lövestad A3 1 and Hedegerga B2 1) to test the thermogenic gas potential of the Alum shale in the Sjöbo Hörby and Tomelilla municipalities.
