Report summary

Early studies suggested that the Alum shales in southern Sweden were thick, had a high organic content, and were thermally mature.  In 2010 Shell drilled three wells (Oderup C4-1, Lövestad A3-1 and Hedegerga B2-1) to test the thermogenic gas potential of the Alum shale in the Sjöbo, Hörby, and Tomelilla municipalities.  However, in May 2011 the company announced that it was not going to renew its licences after all three test results showed non-commercial volumes of natural gas.
