The Barnett Shale is considered to be the play where the shale gas industry was born.  This analysis focuses solely on the Barnett Core, a largely urban area surrounding much of metropolitan Fort Worth in North Texas.  The Barnett Core is located in Johnson, Tarrant, Denton, and portions of Wise counties.
