The Haynesville Shale was first assertively publicised by Chesapeake in 2008. It was quickly developed by operators such as Petrohawk (now BHP Billiton), Encana, EXCO, and Chesapeake. Activity peaked in 2011. The Haynesville is the second most productive shale gas play in the United States Only the Marcellus is larger.       • The regulatory environments in both Texas and Louisiana are stable and routinely predictable. There have been no new significant pieces of legislation that have inhibited the ability of operators to drill wells in the Haynesville, despite its relative boom in the 2008 to 2010 timeframe. The Louisiana Office of Conservation actually amended its rules in November 2012 to allow for cross unit drilling of wells, allowing companies to drill with the consent of a simple majority of land owners.
