The Haynesville Shale was first assertively publicised by Chesapeake in 2008. It was quickly developed by operators such as Petrohawk (now BHP Billiton) Encana EXCO and Chesapeake. Activity peaked in 2011. The Haynesville is the second most productive shale gas play in the United States Only the Marcellus is larger.
