Lough Allen shale gas unconventional concept play
Report summary
The Lough Allen basin lies in counties Fermanagh and Tyrone in Northern Ireland, and counties Cavan, Leitrim and Sligo in the Republic of Ireland. Shale gas resource estimates are highly variable due to limited exploration activity. There are currently no active licences for shale exploration in the basin and further unconventional activity is unlikely. It is estimated that the basin has the potential to produce 4.4 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas. However, until more wells are drilled, early estimates of recoverable volumes are highly uncertain.
