The Upper Cretaceous Niobrara Shale is found throughout multiple basins in the Rocky Mountains region. The formation is best known as a rich gas play in the Wattenberg field but the focus of this analysis is on the tight oil potential of the Niobrara in the northeast section of the Denver Julesberg (D J) Basin.
