Asset Report
Transylvania shale gas unconventional concept play
Report summary
Romania is a mature producer with a well-established upstream industry. However, production is falling, and unconventional gas is being considered as a viable alternative to stem decline. There is shale gas potential in the Transylvania basin. In the 1990s, state-backed operator Romgaz drilled several E&A wells. However, no commercial production was sustained. In the past, the operator has highlighted the potential of the play as an alternative to Russian gas imports. However, exploration over recent years has been low.
