Report summary

The Abu Qir gas fields are located 40 kilometres northeast of Alexandria in the shallow waters of Abu Qir Bay in the Nile Delta. The area comprises three fields, Abu Qir, North Abu Qir, and West Abu Qir. Production first began in 1979, but in 2008 the fields were awarded to Edison in a competitive tender. Since then, Edison have redeveloped the fields, adding two new production platforms, with a third planned. Gas from the fields is processed at the onshore Meadia plant and supplies the Egyptian domestic market.
