KOR Petroleum, a private Kazakh company, operates the Ashchisai oil field in central Kazakhstan. Commercial production began in 2001 and peaked at 8,000 b/d in 2008. Output has been in decline since 2011.In 2012, a short pipeline was completed between Ashchisai and Kumkol South. As a result, two-thirds of oil is exported to China via the Kazakhstan-China Oil Pipeline. The remainder is sold on the domestic market.
