The Ashrafi field is located offshore in the southwest of the Gulf of Suez. The field was brought onstream in 1992 via one central platform, and has since been joined by three satellite platforms. Oil production is transported via pipeline from the central platform to the western shore, where it is processed at the SUCO plant at Zeit Bay. In September 2015, the partners received a five-year licence extension. Drilling and workover activity had been curtailed amid uncertainty over whether this would be granted, but we expect drilling to ramp up in 2016 following confirmation. Production from the Ashrafi fields is plagued by increasing water cut and the partners are faced with the challenge of increasing oil output whilst limiting produced water. To achieve this goal, the operator has focused on optimizing gas lifting.
