The Bai Hassan field lies to the west of the Kirkuk field and previously fell under the jurisdiction of the North Oil Company, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Oil. The KAR Group, on behalf of the Kurdistan Regional Government, has been operating the field since the militant occupation of parts of northern Iraq in 2014. The militant occupation of northern Iraq impacted production during 2014 and 2015 as the Baiji refinery and northern export routes were attacked. Since control passed to the KAR Group, production was re-routed via the Kurdistan Export Pipeline to Ceyhan. Production has been restored to near pre-conflict levels.
