Woodside discovered the Banda gas field offshore Mauritania in 2002. It lies in over 300 metres of water, just 55 kilometres from the capital city, Nouakchott. In 2008, Banda was successfully appraised and it was declared commercial by Tullow Oil in 2012. The development plan involved two subsea wells linked to a manifold, with a 10-inch pipeline to an onshore processing plant.
