Report summary
In January 1998, Agip (now Eni) discovered the Baraka oil field in the Gulf of Hammamet Enfida B exploration block. The Baraka South East-1 well also discovered oil in 2002. Eni began evaluating development options for the fields following the Baraka South East discovery. A two-well development plan utilizing an offshore production platform and an onshore oil and gas processing plant was approved in 2007. Production started in 2010 with the gas being sold to Société Tunisienne du Électricité et du Gaz (STEG) while the oil is piped via the Maamoura field to the onshore production facility, from where it is trucked to La Skhira to be exported. Twenty percent of the produced oil is reserved for the domestic market and trucked to the Bizerte refinery.
