Block 4 is located around 80 kilometres offshore Angola, in the Lower Congo Basin. In 2004, Sonangol discovered the Gimboa field with its first exploration well. This was followed in 2007 by a successful appraisal of the 4/31-1-3 discovery, which was originally discovered by Ranger Oil in 1996.
