Canada's carbon goals: what it could mean for the oil sands
Report summary
We’ve analysed three scenarios outlining Alberta’s Technology Innovation Emissions Reduction Regulation (TIER) system to quantify the impact on project economics and the variability across oil sands projects. A middle ground scenario is examined for changes to output-based pricing systems (OBPS). The proposed scenarios are not Wood Mackenzie recommendations or expected policies, but are meant to provide insight on how the economics of projects would change with possible changes to the OBPS currently in place.
