The East Shabwa contract area, lies adjacent to the prolific Masila contract area in central Yemen. First production came from the Kharir field in 1997. Production started from Atuf and Wadi Tariah the following year. In 2003, the partners discovered oil in the granitic basement at the Kharir field.
